Picnic at the Piano Mill — Weekend Run to Stanthorpe

15 Apr @ 8:00 am - 16 Apr @ 3:00 pm

Drive to Willson’s Downfall, enjoy an afternoon picnic with musical entertainment then dinner and overnight at Stanthorpe.

The Piano Mill

Saturday 15th April 2023

We will drive to the Piano Mill in Harrigans Lane, Willsons Downfall. Bring your picnic rug, food etc. and enjoy the music from 3pm to 5pm

Please BYO picnic rug, folding chair, food and drinks. There will be some local wines for sale.

We will then drive to Stanthorpe, about 30 minutes away, where we will book into our accommodation for the night.

A little later we will get together for an evening meal before retiring for the night, making our way home on Sunday morning.

Please be aware that these are preliminary plans only. Perhaps someone can suggest a visit or activity in Stanthorpe on the Sunday morning before we head home?

The picturesque road from Beaudesert to Willsons Downfall via Woodenbong was closed following landslides last time I checked but hopefully it will be open by April. We’ll decide our route and starting pont closer to the date.

I won’t write too much now about the entertainment or the venue because it is all online and, instead, please follow the links below and do a bit of googling to learn more.

Sunday 16th April 2023

We’ll head home — maybe spend time in Stanthorpe first?

If you plan to attend:

  1. Purchase your tickets – $30 each, concession available – (to avoid disappointment – do it NOW)
  2. Email Liz so we can organise accommodation and other details and keep you in the loop.
  3. Wait for more details.

The feathured entertainers:  Three-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA bring their stunning blend of folk to this special setting for you to enjoy from the comfort of your picnic rug.  Watch them perform:

Harrigans lane is a special place, an eastern escarpment in the granite belt between Stanthorpe and Tenterfield – a beautiful part of the world. Hosts Jocelyn and Bruce invite you to join them there for a laid back afternoon of music.

For one afternoon only, three-time Queensland Music Award winners MZAZA bring their stunning blend of folk to this special setting for you to enjoy from the comfort of your picnic rug.

French-Sephardic vocalist Pauline Maudy leads this tight band of brilliant musicians to create a musical ride like none you’ve experienced before. Following a suite of Australian and international tours, MZAZA are excited to deliver this relaxed concert in a beautiful setting.

Don’t miss an opportunity to catch these warm and consummate performers whose harmonies, accordion, exotic strings, guitar, double bass and percussion will make you travel.

Songlines Magazine calls their third album, The Birth and Death of Stars, “a cross-genre cornucopia, a giver of gifts both aural and cerebral… A supernova of an album”.

Please BYO picnic rug, folding chair, food and drinks. There will be some local wines for sale.

More about MZAZA.

This event is sponsored by Harrigans Lane Collective. Find out more about what they do and the property here.

The entrance to the Piano Mill (on the left) is exactly 3.23 kilometers from the intersection with Mt Lindesay Road. The 323 Harrigans Lane is recognised on google maps. We recommend using Google maps (Apple maps don’t work as well for this location for some reason) and downloading the map before travel as there is no reception in the area.

What to expect

You will be met at the gate and receive some instructions. The performances during the afternoon will take place on the Suntory outdoor stage.

What is provided

A bar serving local wines and beer (eftpos or cash) and some merchandise will be available. You are welcome to bring your own receptacles, we otherwise serve in biocups.

What to bring

You are welcome to byo snacks, water, refreshments, a thermos, or other beverages along with a picnic rug or a lightweight folding chair.

Many of us have been affected in various ways by Covid and we wish to keep our performers and guests safe. We ask that you do not attend if you are feeling unwell. You will receive a refund if you let us know.

Refund Policy

Tickets are transferable and refunds available up to 4 weeks prior to the event.
